Oral Hygiene and Preventative Care
Oral hygiene and preventive care is the practice of keeping one’s mouth clean and free of disease and other problems by regular brushing, flossing and professional cleaning of the teeth.
X-rays
Dental x-rays are crucial for diagnosis and prevention in dental care. Categorized as intraoral and extraoral, they provide detailed views of teeth, surrounding areas, bone, and supporting tissues, helping diagnose issues early and rule out potential pathology or areas needing attention.
Restorations (Fillings)
A filling restores a decayed or fractured tooth, preventing further decay. The dentist removes decay, cleans the area, and places a new filling, considering repair extent and material choice. Note that a restoration is cosmetic and may not match natural tooth strength.
Root Canals
A root canal preserves a non-vital or infected tooth. After applying local anesthetic, the dentist uses a dental dam and creates an opening in the crown to remove the affected pulp. Canals are cleaned, filled, and sealed with special materials.
Sealants
Dental sealants, a plastic coating applied by a hygienist, protect permanent back teeth from decay by forming a barrier on the chewing surface. This preventive measure complements brushing and flossing, addressing areas often challenging for traditional oral care.
Mouth Guards
& Night Guards
Mouth guards prevent mouth injuries by providing cushion and jaw stabilization, while night guards deter bruxing and clenching, benefiting those with worn teeth or jaw pain. Both custom-fit appliances involve a mold, lab fabrication, and fitting with usage instructions.
Oral Cancer Screening
Oral cancer screening involves a visual and physical examination of the mouth and surrounding tissues, checking for abnormalities like asymmetries, swellings, or color changes. It provides reassurance or enables early treatment if issues are detected.
